The Administrative Systems Project [ASP] is a major project to improve key areas of the University's information infrastructure. The project will undertake a critical evaluation of the quality, structure and availability of data as well as gaps in the functionality of the business systems, which currently underpin Human Resources, Payroll, Finance, Procurement and Research Grant management.
The main aim of the project is to enable these Units to provide as high a level of service as possible to all areas of the University and external bodies by ensuring that they are supported by a sound information infrastructure and appropriate business systems.
Examples of success criteria include:
- Schools will have confidence in the data held centrally and can access it easily and in the format they require; thus removing the need to collect duplicate local data sets.
- Central Units will spend less time producing and checking statutory reports and internal management reports including those that require input from several Units.
- Central Units will spend less time producing ad-hoc reports for other Units, Schools or Senior Management because these customers will be able to access most of what they need directly on-line.
- Managers will be able to spend more time planning ahead with improved data quality and access;
- Researchers and Research Managers will be able to manage their grants via a single on-line interface with access to all relevant information;
- Central Units will work together to ensure that
- data ownership and maintenance is clearly defined;
- procedures are in place to manage changes to data requirements including the affects on other Units and their customers
